This record represents a very special time for the members of UJMS. At this point Brian was back in Rochester and we were playing with Joe Coats, a B3 junkie that was quite a bit our senior, but was hip to all the music we loved and appreciated. Not to mention he's absolutely KILLER on B3, Rhodes, clav...you name it..he's killin' it! As you can probably tell by listening, records such as Grant Green's "Live at the Light house" or Dr. Lonnie Smith's "Live at Club Mozambique" were and still are like musical law to us and definetly helped shape the vibe of this record.
Heat Exchange is a collection of original songs and a few covers from some of our biggest influences. It was recorded live over 2 days at one of our college house's in Fredonia NY. UJMS singer/bassist Brian Didsbury made the trip from Rochester NY to engineer the session which was done "live to 2" with the most minimal gear possible..."quick and dirty"! (Those of you who dabble in recording know what a task it is to get a good "live to 2" especially in the living room with a 2 track digital recorder)
The Gnitty Gritty continued to play shows through out 2004 and 2005 and had a great time doing it!
Having Joe in the band really made it possible for us to develop into what UJMS has become today...and for that we are forever grateful. Hope you DIG!
